Nigeria’s U-23 Team Beat Japan 5-4 | Watch Highlights
Congrats to the Dream Team VI! Olivia the Parrot was wrong! The parrot predicted Japan’s victory on Thursday but Nigeria won!
After series of delays and disappointments, Nigeria’s Men’s Football team at the Olympics beat their Japanese counterparts 5 goals to 4 on Thursday night in Brazil (Friday morning in Nigeria).
An early goal was scored by Nigeria’s Sadiq Umar 7 minutes into the game. Shinzo Koroki retaliated 2 minutes later for Japan.
Nigeria retook the lead with a goal from Oghenekaro Etebo in the 11th minute but not for long as Takumi Minamino leveled the score 2 minutes later.
For about thirty minutes there were no goals until Etebo came to the rescue, scoring 3 for Nigeria at the 42nd, 51st (penalty), and 66th minute of the game, putting Nigeria 3 goals ahead of Japan.
The Japanese struck back with two goals before full time, but they were not sufficient to grant them victory.
The game ended 5-4 with the Dream Team clinching their first victory in Rio!
Congrats team! We hope Atlanta ’96 repeats itself.
